Inspired by the original London production of The Phantom of the Opera, this design captures an iconic scene from the West End’s most haunting love story.

‘BEHIND THE DESIGN’

In this reimagined scene, the Phantom sings to Christine to let her darker side give in and entreats her to forget the world and life she knew before. The opulent frame surrounding the illustration is inspired by the theatrical set and sculptural ornamentation of Phantom of the Opera production (designed by Maria Björnson), featuring the grand theatre box frequented by Raoul and the opera house directors. As the Phantom’s ‘Don Juan Triumphant’ musical score and his Red Death mask from the masquerade ball lie at the base of the frame, the shadow of the Opera Ghost stalks the tunnels beneath the theatre and the voluptuous curtains set the stage for the gothic romance to unfold.
