Inspired by the original London production of The Phantom of the Opera, this design captures an iconic scene from the West End’s most haunting love story.

‘BEHIND THE DESIGN’

In this reimagined scene, Christine and the Phantom sing a haunting duet as they glide across the subterranean lake to his shadowy lair beneath the opera house. The opulent frame surrounding the illustration is inspired by the theatrical set and sculptural ornamentation of Phantom of the Opera production (designed by Maria Björnson), featuring the theatre’s glittering chandelier which the Phantom infamously sends crashing down in bitter fury at the end of Act I. As the Phantom’s music box topped with a cymbal-playing monkey sits at the base of the frame, the Golden Angel hangs overhead and the voluptuous curtains set the stage for the gothic romance to unfold.
